Free Cat Toy Pattern

Pattern by Jessica

I used Medium weight (4 weight) cotton (Bernat Handicrafter or Lily Sugar N Cream)
Size 7(4.5mm) hook. If you don’t have this size G (4mm) or H(5mm)
Any Yarn scraps you have laying around that you would normally toss out.
Large eye yarn needle
Stitch markers
Catnip or Catnip spray (local pet supply shop) I get mine from Petsmart.
12 Pieces of yarn 8“long(for tail)
4 Pieces of yarn 4“long(for whiskers)
The CH2 in the beginning of each round counts as first st

Round 1- CH 5, slip stitch to last chain to join into a loop
Round 2- CH 1, 8 SC into loop, slip stitch to 1st SC to join (8)
Round 3- CH 2, 1 HDC into same stitch, 2 HDC in each stitch around, slip stitch to top of CH 2     to join (16)
Round 4- CH 2, 2 HDC into next st, *1 HDC in next st, 2 HDC in next st* RPT from *to* to end of round ending on an inc, sl st to top of CH 2 to join(24)
Round 5- CH 2, 1 HDC in next st, 2 HDC in next st,*1 HDC in next 2 sts, 2 HDC in next st* RPT from *to* to end, ending on inc, sl st in top of CH2 to join(32)
Round 6- CH 2, 1 HDC in next 2 sts, 2 HDC in next st.*1 HDC in next 3 sts, 2 HDC in next st* RPT from *to* to end. ending on inc, sl st to top of CH 2 to join. DO NOT FASTEN OFF(40)

CH 25 and fasten off leaving an 8“tail.
Fold tail on inside of circle so it comes out on other side
Cut a piece of yarn long enough to sew top together and tie it to the tail in the middle of the loop.

For ears join yarn into the opposite side of tail with a sl st and ch 3, sl st into same st. tie the two ends together and do not weave in. you are going to stuff them inside (picture on next page)
Fold circle in half and place st markers it top only on half of circle
Fasten on whiskers
Stuff mouse with scraps and catnip. Join top with the length of yarn you tied to the middle tail with a whip st. I tied a tiny sl st after sewing and thread the yarn through middle of mouse. Cut extra.

Make sure to go through tail

Insert hook into last ch on tail and fasten the 8“scraps of yarn. I had to do this in 2 trys.
Trim all whiskers and tails to desired length. Enjoy!!!
